ETUDE DE LA ROUTE DORI-TERA

The present study, initiated by Burkina Faso and Niger through ALG, is in line with the PRSP adopted by both countries and reflects their desire to remove the bottleneck represented by the current condition of the road with a view to reactivating economic cooperation between the two countries and to strengthen the means of fighting against poverty in the area. Indeed the Dori-Téra road is the only section of the Ouagadougou – Kaya – Dori – Tera –Niamey inter-States highway not yet developed. Its present condition is an obstacle to the pastoral and agricultural resources development of part of the Liptako-Gourma region and to local and international traffic. The study marks an important step toward an optimum solution to the obstacle caused by the current status of the road for the development of the area concerned, fight against the extreme poverty which is rampant in the road area and the international trade through the major road connecting Ouagadougou, (Capital of Burkina Faso) and Niamey (Capital of Niger). It will make it possible, in successive phases, to find the optimum solution, taking into account the level of local and international traffic demand, the fundamental concerns of the population in the area as well as well-established environmental norms. The study comprises two phases: the determination of the project’s feasibility (Phase I) and the realization of detailed engineering studies on the selected development (Phase II). Its realization will lead to a viable project which will be a subject of a donors meeting with a view to rapid implementation of the most appropriate solution jointly agreed on with the two countries. The total study cost, excluding taxes and custom duties is estimated at UA 0.78 million, including a provision for physical contingencies.
