ETUDE D'INTERCONNEXION PAYS DU NIL EQUAT

The study on the electrical interconnection of the member countries of the Equatorial Lakes region of the Nile is an appropriate response to the constraints and difficulties of electricity supply in the sub region. It fits perfectly into the 'regional electricity exchange project' contained in the NBI Joint Vision Program whose study financed by the Trust Fund managed by the World Bank is underway. This project aims to create and support a regional electricity market among the countries of this region through the establishment of a Nile Basin Power Forum and conducting a comprehensive study of supply, demand, and long-term power exchange opportunities across the basin. The study will be carried out in three phases. The first phase will consist of a summary review of the feasibility of the planned interconnections and, where appropriate, the updating of existing preliminary interconnection studies between a number of countries. The second phase will be dedicated to the technical, economic, financial and environmental feasibility studies of the interconnections retained at the end of the previous phase. The third phase will include detailed pre-project studies as well as bidding documents for all selected interconnections. The implementation of the interconnection projects that will result from this study will allow the increase of electricity and a greater supply of electricity at reasonable prices in the long term, which should promote the economic development of the sub-region. It will be executed over a period of 18 months with a net cost of taxes and taxes estimated at approximately UA 2.11 million.
