As the model of a future is education in the digital world, launched in 2005 and with the participation of Turkey in 2009, eTwinning is and becomes a community of teachers and one of the pioneer project recognized at national level. eTwinning has grown from a grassroots initiative into an active schools’ community which has involved, since its launch, more than 1 million teachers working in more than two hundred thousand schools across 43 countries. Funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme, eTwinning provides a safe digital platform, where teachers are engaged in various activities: from the design and implementation of European collaborative projects to networking, from the participation in virtual groups to professional development and peer-learning. Together with the School Education Gateway and Teacher Academy, the eTwinning platform provides/will provide a range of resources and learning opportunities for teachers and schools aiming to increase the visibility and impact of European policy and Erasmus+ program in the integrated platform named as European School Education Platform (ESEP). eTwinning works as community of practice and it serves a platform which has a methodology and a pedagogical approach supporting innovation, collaboration and communication. At European level, eTwinning is coordinated, on behalf of the European Commission, by the Central Support Services (CSS) managed by European Schoolnet, a consortium of 32 Ministries of Education. At national level, there is a National Support Organisation (NSO) in each participating country which promotes eTwinning by offering a range of communication and learning activities and provides guidance and support to end-users.
