As the DL 92 of 2019 introduced the study of a new subject in all Italian high schools, Citizenship education is to be taught an hour a week across the curriculum for a total of 33 hours per year per class. It has therefore become of paramount importance for our school to develop a curriculum in Citizenship as recommended by the Council of the European Union on 22 May 2018, where the key competences for lifelong learning are laid out. Our project intends to contribute to the call by focusing on strengthening EU Literacy in our school, empowering a selected group of 10 teachers by giving them the know-how and skills to teach about the EU, allowing a group of 20-25 third and 20-25 fourth-year students to take part in seminars, project weeks, and debates, and fifth-year students to set up and run an Infopoint on Europe supervised by their teachers. The project will see the creation of two distinct Citizenship curricula, one aimed at 3rd-year students focused on the basic knowledge of the EU, its history, its institutions, and on aimed at 4th-year students focused on EU media literacy, the tackling of fake news, EU values and freedom of expression. The students will be chosen through a selection process. This will take the form of a quiz administered to the students of the classes involved. The winners will be selected by a jury formed by the Projects Coordinators and the other teachers involved. Study trips to Strasbourg and Brussels will be by train and will see the participation of a higher number of students.
