EU and YOUth: EU Citizens and Local Democracy

EUYOU is a project designed to promote political rights of EU citizens and create opportunities for local democratic participation of both mobile EU citizens and under-represented social groups, which are youth and minorities. EUYOU aims to promote EU citizenship rights and create democratic participation opportunities through ground projects for mobile EU citizens, targeting especially young people and minorities. The project will undertake two main strains of activities. First, the project team will prepare a handbook for organizing 4 tailored-to-needs events and organize a capacity building event for 25 local experts and youth center workers from 10 regionally dispersed youth centers in Slovenia. Participants of the training will then organize 40 events, 4 per youth center, directly involving at least 15 members of target groups per event. The events will focus on political rights, intercultural dialogue and democratic participation opportunities. Simultaneously, the project team will also establish EUYOU website as a comprehensive and interactive digital info point with relevant information about rights of EU citizens and opportunities for democratic participation. An interactive function will serve as a tool for members of targeted groups to get free advice regarding their EU citizenship rights. In order to boost the visibility of the project, website traffic and to raise awareness, the project will execute a social media campaign, utilizing profiles on 3 platforms. The project will ensure a wider impact by creating a EU-wide network of at least 20 interested NGOs, who will receive materials and resources after the completion of the project for replicating it in their local environments. The project results will also be disseminated to local and national authorities and other stakeholders. EUYOU is expected to raise awareness about EU citizenship rights and create direct democratic participation opportunities and raise political literacy of target groups.
