Description

Description

The European Commission has banned EU funding for energy projects that use solar inverters from 'high-risk' countries, primarily targeting Chinese manufacturers. This ban applies to all major EU financing instruments and extends to neighboring regions feeding into the European grid. The move is driven by cybersecurity concerns following a cyberattack on Poland's energy infrastructure in December 2025. The EU aims to promote domestic inverter manufacturing, which currently has a capacity of over 100GW per year with plans to expand by 45GW by 2027.
