Description

Description

DCU proposes to create NGEULAW, a Jean Monnet Module to study EU Law and policy in the field of banking and finance after the Great Financial Crisis (GFC) and the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be a foundational full-year course including 44h of in-class teaching and 8h of exchanges with stakeholders during a study trip in a European capital city. NGEULAW will be delivered entirely online and employ open educational resources (OER). With a strong interdisciplinary grounding, the module will teach a methodological approach to European integration generally and banking and finance specifically, surveying the different schools of thought (1st half). It will then focus on practical, legal and policy issues (2nd half). Before their study trip, students will work on case-studies that require EU policy and legal analyses. The module will be delivered by Christy Ann Petit, an early-career Assistant Professor. She has an undergraduate and a master degree from the Ecole normale supérieure, a master degree from the College of Europe, a PhD in Law from the European University Institute (EUI), and post-doctoral work experience as a Research Associate at the EUI Florence School of Banking and Finance. The course will be offered within DCU’s flagship Masters of European Law and Policy (MELP) as an instance of specialised teaching in EU developments that will complement DCU’s EU studies’ curriculum. The results of NGEULAW activities will be disseminated within and outside DCU. As an affiliated member of DCU’s Brexit Institute and of EU Law/economic policy networks, she will reach diverse audience groups. The module coordinator will reflect upon the main findings with at least one peer-reviewed article during the grant period. This Module will be connected with other initiatives in EU affairs, i.e. the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence REBUILD, a 3-year research project on the EU post-pandemic recovery plan that will run in parallel with NGEULAW, leveraging the existing expertise of DCU.
