Description

Description

How can European professionals of the future contribute to achieving climate neutrality? The Jean Monnet Module “EU Climate Governance & Active Engagement for Green Europe” equips bachelor students at The Hague University of Applied Sciences with the necessary expertise to navigate EU climate legislation, governance structures, and participatory mechanisms, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13 (Climate Action). The module responds to the increasing need for professionals capable of assessing, implementing, and shaping climate policies across the public and private sectors, particularly in alignment with the European Green Deal, the European Climate Law, and the Just Transition Mechanism. Currently, bachelor-level education in EU environmental law and climate governance is largely absent in the Netherlands, with most programs offering only broad introductions or postgraduate specializations. This module fills a critical gap by offering an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines legal analysis, governance perspectives, and sustainability strategies. It is open to students from Law, European Studies, Public Policy, Business, and related fields, ensuring a multi-disciplinary approach to climate governance education. The module provides students with a deep understanding of the EU’s multi-level climate governance framework, addressing key themes such as regulatory approaches to climate neutrality (national, EU, global), emissions reduction mechanisms, and corporate sustainability obligations. It introduces the concept of Just Transition, ensuring that climate policies are implemented in a socially equitable manner, linking SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).
