Description | Overall objective: To contribute to an increased protection of fundamental rights in the EU Member States in areas such as fight against racism, xenophobia and homophobia; data protection and privacy; family law; asylum; labour rights; and integrity of a person (bioethics); procedural rights in criminal proceedings and victims’ rights; asylum. Specific objectives: - To enhance EU legal professionals’ capacities to effectively and coherently apply European fundamental rights standards at the national level and through cross-border training, mainly referring to the EU Charter on Fundamental Rights (the Charter), the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), the (revised) European Social Charter (ESC) and relevant EU and Council of Europe (CoE) Law. - To strengthen the HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal professionals) EU Network and increase mutual trust between EU practitioners. Activities - Development of new HELP e-learning courses on family law; procedural rights in criminal proceedings and victims’ rights; and gathering and use of evidence in terrorism cases; - Adaptation of existing HELP e-learning courses (asylum, data protection, fight against racism and xenophobia, right to integrity of the person (bioethics), labour rights) to national/cross-border legal orders - Training-of-trainers on the HELP Methodology - 8 seminars to launch cross-border courses + 2 seminars for national courses - Translation: HELP Guidebook on Methodology + CoE Glossary on the ECHR (3+10 EU languages) - Implementation of courses Target groups - 560 legal professionals - 20 EU trained trainers - Potential extension to universities/NGOs Expected results (see 1.4) R.1. Creation and adaptation (including translation) of HELP courses to EU national systems and languages R.2. Improved knowledge and skills of EU legal professionals on how to articulate the ECHR, the EU Charter and the ESC as well as relevant EU and CoE law in their daily work. R.3.
