Description | Main objective: To improve justice cooperation in criminal matters and to contribute to the effective and coherent application of related European instruments. Specific objectives: To enhance implementation and practical application of European instruments on criminal matters through increasing capacities and mutual trust of justice practitioners. Emphasis on transnational cooperation and the following priorities: mutual recognition of instruments; judicial responses to terrorism, notably on reinforcing the prevention of radicalisation, especially in prisons; issues related to pre-trial detention, in particular raising awareness of case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR); the functioning of European and other international Treaties/legal instruments on international co-operation in criminal matters. Results: R.1. Reinforced networking, exchanges and mutual trust among EU justice practitioners building-up on the April 2019 DG Justice-CoE High-Level Conference with a focus on European and other international legal instruments, transnational cooperation and conditions of detention. R.2. Improved awareness, knowledge and skills of EU criminal justice practitioners (mainly judges, prosecutors, prison and probation staff) on priority criminal matters: a) reinforcing the prevention of radicalisation, especially in prisons; b) judicial/justice responses to terrorism; c) issues related to pre-trial detention. the functioning of European and other international Treaties/legal instruments on International co-operation in criminal matters; d) raising awareness of case law of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Target Groups: 150 persons in high-level EU/CoE conference. 300 justice practitioners (mainly judges, prosecutors, prison & probation staff, min.40% women from EU, Albania and/or Montenegro). This will be achieved via: EU-CoE acquis; sharing of best practices, multi-disciplinary/cross-border approach, capacity building; mutual trust; networking. |
