EU Common Security and Defence Policy and Ukraine

Common Security and Defence Policy is one of the most dynamically evolving pillars of the EU cooperation. Current turbulent security environment around the EU's borders and in its neighbourhood triggers further and even closer cooperation of the EU Member States to ensure peace and stability within and outside the EU. Third countries look carefully at the development of the CSDP and consider their partial participation therein. Ukraine is one of the most pro-European neighbouring countries with explicit integration aspirations. However, since 2014 Ukraine has been a center of security conflict following the annexation of Crimea and war in the East of Ukraine. Therefore, Ukraine looks for its own place and possible access to the EU CSDP. EU_Ukr_CSDP addresses the Ukraine’s increasing demand for closer cooperation with the EU in the field of security and defence. Constant security threats and ongoing military conflict in Donbas push Ukraine for closer rapprochement with the EU in the field of security and defence. The outputs of the project consist of high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate courses in EU CSDP, series of 3 annual academic events (seminar, workshop, and international conference), series of guest lectures, textbook, podcasts, and blogs. The EU_Ukr_CSDP targets academic audiences, policy makers and stake holders and involves NGOs.
