I Wonder Pictures was born in 2013 inspired by the experience of Biografilm Festival - International Celebration of Lives, an event that will celebrate its seventeenth edition in 2021 and that has brought city of Bologna to become a reference centre for national and international biographical and documentary cinema. Thanks to the support of Unipol Gruppo Finanziario - patron of the Unipol Biografilm Collection - and the esteem of the local institutions like Emilia-Romagna Region and the City of Bologna, I Wonder Pictures began its ambitious project of bringing to theatres quality national and international cinema, both documentary and feature films. With great editorial sensibility in defining a high-profile cultural line-up of films, in 2015 I Wonder begun the acquisition of feature films with a special attention to French auteurs, succeeding in meeting the favour of even the most exigent cinephile audiences. Some of the most successful films distributed during the years were: - The Brand New Testament by Jaco Van Dormael (Luxembourg, France, Belgium, 2015, 106’) - Some Like It Veiled by Sou Abadi (France, 2017, 88’) - The Death of Stalin by Armando Iannucci (France, 2017, 106’) - Le Brio by Yvan Attal (France, 2017, 95’) - Non-Fiction by Olivier Assayas (France, 2018, 108’) - Who You Think I Am by Safy Nebbou (France, 2019, 101’) - La Belle Époque by Nicolas Bedos (France, 2019, 115’) - The Mystery of Henri Pick by Rémi Besançon (France, 2019, 100’) Other Italian-French co-productions count Hannah by Andrea Pallaoro (Italy, Belgium, France, 2017, 95’), masterfully interpreted by Charlotte Rampling, awarded with the Coppa Volpi at 2017 Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica di Venezia, and After the War by Annarita Zambrano (Italy, France, 2017, 92’), presented at Cannes film festival in 2017. This path has led I Wonder to become the main reference distributor for most important French players like Gaumont, Pathé, Playtime and Le Pacte and the key mediator for the most innovative and original French productions, boasting an undisputed expertise regarding comedies, also due to the consolidated partnership with Unifrance. In addition to the many awards received by its films at some of the most important Italian and international film festivals, I Wonder Pictures has a consolidated experience in the discovery and promotion of new talents. These actors, directors, screenwriters become the image of the development and growth of a market not only in economic terms: from a start-up in 2013, I Wonder has become, since 2015, one of the top 15 players in the market and is among the top 10 distributors for cinema d’essai, taking an important cultural role in offering to the general public a vision of new languages, current events, new stories and the future of cinema. I Wonder Pictures counts on the audience for the development of every single distributive project, giving the possibility not to be a mere spectator, but an engaged and active part of the distribution process through promotion and marketing activities aspiring to customer loyalty. At the beginning of 2019 I Wonder has acquired the rights for the treatment and script of Hijab & Push Up; in 2020 this text has become a co-production development project together with the Italian producer Palomar and the French producer Chapter 2, destined to the production of a feature film.
