At the heart of the project EU HAVE A DREAM lies a resolute commitment to bridge the gap between democratic values and young citizens, particularly those who are distanced from active participation. By addressing this challenge directly, we aspire to empower young citizens who are less engaged, giving them the tools, knowledge, and inspiration to become active contributors to democratic decision-making and policy shaping. Through the project we intend to develop an innovative participatory theatre debate format capable of fostering discussion and collaboration on both local and global issues involving young people, civic organizations and politicians. This innovative approach encourages young people to engage in open discussions on various topics, fostering a deeper connection between citizens and policy makers and thereby enriching democratic processes. The debates, conceived as compelling spectacles, hold the potential to resonate with diverse audiences, including those who have not yet delved into active citizenship experiences. The project will create a lasting network of collaborations between partners and engage young citizens of different nationalities, ages and social backgrounds in Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Germany and Belgium. These countries will serve as the primary locations for project activities, ensuring a diverse range of voices and perspectives in shaping the project's outcomes. The outputs include the making of 5 citizens’ workshops, 10 participatory theatre debates (5 on climate change and 5 on European issues chosen by the participants), 1 international participatory theatre debate in Brussels, 1 Charter of Key Principles on good practice in participatory activities, 1 format of participatory theatre debate offering a scalable and replicable model for engaging citizens and addresing political disengagement across the broader European context. Approximately 2500 participants will be directly engaged in the proposed activities.
