Description

Description

The JM Module “EU in the Indo-Pacific and What We Can Learn from It” focuses on the governance of the EU and its role in the Indo-Pacific region. The module coordinator, who has long been engaged in teaching and researching EU studies and regional integration, has observed that students in Central Taiwan lack systematic courses and academic resources on EU studies compared to their counterparts in Taipei. To address this gap, this module aims to provide structured education and research opportunities on EU governance, regional integration, and its strategic presence in the Indo-Pacific. This module sets two main objectives: (1) Enhancing EU studies in teaching, by offering systematic courses on EU institutions, governance structures, and regional integration history. Over three years, the number of students enrolled in EU-related courses is expected to increase from 100 to 500, with two additional EU courses introduced. (2) Promoting academic research in EU studies, by organising workshops and academic conferences to strengthen participants' expertise. The target is to hold at least three research-related events within three years. This module will collaborate with other academic institutions, including the EU Centre in Taiwan, to enhance students’ learning experiences. It will also organise Model European Union simulations, where students represent EU institutions and engage in discussions on European affairs. Additionally, distinguished scholars and diplomats will be invited to deliver guest lectures, providing students with insights into global and regional affairs. A key innovation of this module is its focus on the EU’s Indo-Pacific strategy, which will help students analyse the EU’s approach to geopolitical changes and apply these lessons to Taiwan’s position in global affairs. By implementing this module, we aim to nurture students with international perspectives and expertise in EU studies, strengthening Taiwan’s academic engagement in European affairs.
