Description | Objectives: - train legal and non-legal professionals from around the world in EU insurance Law, with a special focus on insurance’s role in meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and the 2030 Agenda. - raise awareness and promote critical thinking on SDG and the insurance sector's potential role in our collective efforts to meet them, in the framework of the EU's aims and values, as laid out in article 3 of the Lisbon Treaty; - foster dialogue among various stakeholders - students, academics, industry professionals, regulators, policymakers; - take an active role in the preparation, discussion and open access dissemination of data-based public policy recommendations which contribute to furthering SDG. Activities/ beneficiaries: - An in-person EQF Level 7 course on EU Insurance Law, available as a mandatory course to students of NSL's Master's in Law and Financial Markets and as an elective course to other NSL students and to any qualified member of the general public (24 contact hours, 4 ECTS); - an e-course on Insurance and Human Rights, mainly addressed at the general public, including guest lecturers linked to AIDA Europe with an expertise on EU Insurance Law (18 contact hours, 2 ECTS); - a series of annual conferences organized by the NOVA Knowledge Centre for Data-Driven Law in collaboration with AIDA Portugal, AIDA Spain and AIDA Europe under the general topic “EU Insurance Law: Challenges in the SDG Era” (hybrid format, mainly addressed at the national community of insurance law scholars and professionals). Expected results: - trained professionals; - heightened awareness of insurance’s social role and of the importance of EU values; - stronger, more effective institutions through the implementation of data-based public policy recommendations. Outputs: - two new curricular units outlasting the module’s timespan; - annual conference proceedings focused on furthering social fairness and prosperity through public policy recommendations. |
