EU integration: experience, achievements and modern challenges

"European integration is the process of industrial, political, legal, economic, social & cultural integration of states wholly or partially connected with Europe & values of European civilization. European integration has primarily come about through the European Union & its policies. Nizhnevartovsk State University students within the course ""The Contemporary History of Europe and America"", ""History of Europe in Modern Times"" used to study the unification processes in the Western Europe countries in the 19th century, which laid the foundation for European integration in the second half of the 20th century. The European idea is also traced in earlier periods. However, this problem is implemented in general historical disciplines; there is a need for a separate course devoted to the history of European integration. This course will allow students to study the historical periods of the united Europe idea development, the transformation of this idea and the final incarnation into one of the most significant regional integration projects - the European Union. The main aim of the proposed module is to promote discussion and reflection on the European integration via the historical analysis, focused on identification of European integration history specific features with the aim of elaboration and perfection of teaching materials. It is planned that the proposed module will implement and contribute to actively promote the training course “European Integration: achievements and challenges” in curricula in NVSU and its wide dissemination in academic, business communities, regional authorities and civil society as a whole. Implementation of this training course for university students, providing them with the appropriate knowledge and skills on the European integration history, based on historical and political analysis results, will contribute substantially to broadening students' range of vision and perfecting their professional skills."
