Description

Description

The EU Regional Trust Fund for the Syrian Crisis - Madad (hereinafter referred to as the EU Trust Fund) is financed by the EU and its member states and, where appropriate, other donors. The EU Trust Fund aims (according to the original founding document) to respond to the Syrian crisis with coherent, coordinated and increased aid measures at regional level. The initial focus will be on the needs of refugees from Syria seeking refuge in neighboring countries and the needs of the communities hosting them. The focus is on strengthening resilience and taking the first steps in the recovery process. After the end of the civil war, the EU Trust Fund will be adapted to the reconstruction needs within Syria. The EU Commission and Italy are founding investors in the EU Trust Fund; they signed the founding agreement on December 15, 2014. The volume of the EU Trust Fund currently (as of November 2016) is around EUR 752 million. The aim is to reach a volume of EUR 1 billion.
