Description

Description

"The project aims at studying and disseminating knowledge on the EU’s solidarity-based roots and how solidarity does contribute to provide solutions in times of crisis. Although the integration process has its roots in Schuman’s idea of ""solidarité de fait"", the EU’s incomplete constitution has experienced over the years a number of solidarity crisis which have led many to think that the EU integration project as a whole was in crisis. Bearing this in mind and to counter such misrepresentation, the project will focus its teaching, research and dissemination activities on the successes and limits of EU solidarity, and the role of solidarity in governing current and future EU crisis situations. The Chair will disseminate knowledge in specialised and non-specialised academic contexts, as well as in non-academic ones. In-person activities will be carried out both in the University of Bari and the territorial area of Taranto and Bari, Italy, while online activities will reach a wider audience thanks to a supranational teaching staff. Activities, events and deliverables will focus on economic, single market, migration, health, environmental/energy, social, external relations, youth, disaster-response and rule-of-law-protection policies. Activities and events will include a European Solidarity Law teaching course and other teaching activities in the Law Curriculum of the UNIBA Ionic Department in Legal and Economic System of Mediterranean (DJSGEM) based in Taranto; 3 Annual Conferences; 3 annual laboratory; several PhD lectures and seminars/webinars; thematic meetings in high schools; and 2 public debates in the City of Taranto. Deliverables will include reports, a handbook, working paper collections and a final collective volume (or a special issue in a law journal). At the end of the three-year period, EUSTiC will have promoted excellence, openness, and a genuine added value in teaching and research European studies at UNIBA and in the territorial area thereof."
