Description
Description | The EU Trust Fund Bêkou is financed by the EU and its member states, as well as other investors if necessary, and aims to support the government of the Central African Republic in ending the political and military crisis and improving the economic situation of the population. This makes the fund a so-called LRRD program (linking relief, rehabilitation and development), which can be seen as a link between humanitarian emergency aid and traditional development aid. As part of a multi-sectoral approach, the fund invests in measures that contribute to the resumption of community functions and the supply of the population with basic services and goods. Particular attention is paid to the restoration of peaceful coexistence between the various ethnic and religious population groups, the living conditions of many people due to their flight, and the special situation and role of women in the crisis context. The German government is a founding investor in the fund, together with France, the Netherlands and the EU. The founding document (founding act) was signed by the Federal Government (Minister Gerd Müller) in Florence on 15 July 2014. The German contribution was increased from EUR 5 million to EUR 15 million. |
