Friesland College trains students to become self-confident, practical world citizens with a positive, independent and enterprising attitude. Over the past two years, we have developed one common citizenship vision and curriculum. Now we want to further develop our citizenship curriculum by integrating teaching material about the EU and EU’s core values into our classes. Currently, there is little suitable teaching material available. In our new project EU4ALL we want to focus on 2 target groups: staff and students. Our project has the following objectives: 1: Increase our teachers’ own knowledge and give them practical tools/tips to further develop their own education on the EU and provide up-to-date and challenging education to our students. 2: Improve our students’ (basic) knowledge about the EU, help them understand EU-policy and how that relates to our national policy and help them understand how EU-policy affects their daily lives. 3: Create interest in the EU and strengthen EU literacy among students. 4: Improve students’ learning outcomes on EU matters. 5: Create a basis to enhance participation of our students in the democratic process and ensure that they are better equipped to become active citizens who can make well-informed choices. We will work on these objectives via the following activities: • An annual staff training of 3 sessions about the EU, history, institutions, the relationship between EU policy and its influence on Dutch policy. • Education on EU topics in our Citizenship lessons. • A Project Week 'EU & ME' around Europe Day in May for students. • An in-depth’ programme in the form of a 3-day student excursion to Brussels or Strasbourg. Expected impact: - greater knowledge and understanding of the EU - the understanding of how the EU affects the daily lives (both professional and personal) of students and colleagues - the importance of EU citizenship - better understanding of the influence they can exert themselves.
