Description
Description | This project, EUducation Matters, expands the current EU ambassadors concept in our English department to include a further 7 subjects: English, Geography and History, Science, Technology, Economics, Music and Ethics & Values. The inclusion of EU matters into the teaching of these subjects will both benefit the students by giving context to their studies and the European community as a whole by increasing the understanding of the value of democracy and the European project. The project involves the training of additional teachers in European matters, the adaptation of curricula to include European community elements, cross-curricular projects and dissemination to other schools both locally and internationally within Europe. Our project goes beyond traditional theoretical approaches in order to reach the teenagers who will shape the future of Europe in ways that excite and engage them. The project is based on the idea that ‘when one teaches, two learn’ and, as a result, some activities will be led by our students. From what they learn in expert talks, visits, workshops and class, they are able to project the idea that the EU matters in their lives by developing innovative activities that engage their peers in a cooperative and active way, for example an escape room. This project will be highly effective in raising interest in Europe within our community as it targets all ages within the school, involves several subjects and goes well beyond the walls of our school thanks to social networks and the exchange of activities with other Ambassador Schools of the EP at a national and international level with which we will exchange activities and etwinning projects. Technology will be embedded (website, apps) through the activities so that they can collaborate with others easily as well as training on the EP legislative process, attending a MEU and visits to institutions so that they will experience the EP decision making process. Events, like Europe Day, will be included. |
