EUnity20: Cyprus x EU, Two Decades together

Cyprus's EU accession in 2004 brought substantial economic, social, and strategic benefits despite the unresolved 'Cyprus Problem.' EU membership has given Cyprus a voice in policymaking, crucial funding, and support for innovation and social inclusion. However Cyprus is still the 4th state with the highest Euroscepticism rate. With EUnity20 we aim to deepen the connection between Cypriots and the EU by highlighting the tangible benefits of EU integration. Our project showcases the advantages of EU membership in everyday life, focusing on mobility, creative development, human rights, gender equality, LGBTQ+ rights, and youth engagement. Using an intergenerational approach, we seek to reduce Euroscepticism, celebrate European identity, and foster positive dialogue about Cyprus's role in the EU. Our goal is to cultivate appreciation among Cypriots for the EU's role in enhancing national progress, stability, and quality of life. We will sought to 1. Enhance the visibility of the tangible benefits of EU citizens in their daily lives. 2. Raise awareness on human rights policymaking in Cyprus due to the EU 3. Counter biased information on the EU project 4. Maintain a bottom up approach in engaging a diverse audience and gathering their testimonials as EU citizens. The activities of this project are a manifestation of our specific objectives. We have designed a series of 7 events within a creative framework to maximize visibility and attraction to our target groups and at the same time create valuable memories and a safe spaces of honest discussions on EU integration. The activities in themselves will be a testament of the opportunities EU integration has the capacity to present to its citizens.
