The proposed Project will finance construction and operation of 5 supermarkets in the main urban centres of Albania supporting Euromax to become the first modern food retail operator in the country. The Bank’s participation will promote competition and increased efficiency, and establish best industry practice with regard to food hygiene, and health and safety standards in the Albanian food distribution sector. In addition it will set the standards of corporate governance and good business practice throughout Euromax operations. Euromax sh.p.k.. is a local supermarket operator in Albania. EUR 10 million secured loan and up to EUR 1.5 million equity investment. EUR 23.5 million. The construction of new supermarket developments such as this project has some environmental impacts which can be readily identified and prevented through adequate mitigation measures. For the above reasons, the EBRD has classified the project C/1 and as such it requires an environmental audit. The audit will take the form of a corporate environmental review which will assess the environmental risks and liabilities associated with the Company's operations and compliance with both national and EU standards, and will provide recommendations, as necessary, to address any risk or non-compliance issues. Any such recommendations will be formulated into an agreed environmental action plan and the Company will provide reporting to the Bank on the implementation of the EAP.
