“Lighting the future of Europe” — How do young Europeans see their future? What opportunities does a united Europe offer you? What can the idea of the European city of Selb-Aš contribute to this? The content of the project will be to shed light on the fears and hopes associated with the European Union, highlighting new ideas, especially for young people, in the two neighbouring cities of Selb and Aš and bringing light into the dark of Europe’s scepticism. The programme activities of this meeting project are aimed at cross-border cooperation and identity foundation. The three main programme points are divided into a variety of events, all of which promote exchanges across the border between the neighbouring towns of Selb and Aš: 1. Illuminate the future of Europe with photographers (photographers): View OF THE FENSTER — Photo safaris as an analysis of the actual state and basis of further actions. 1.1. Experienced photographers work with students, go on a discovery tour with the camera in their respective neighboring city and exchange ideas about their hometown for over a year (spring 2019 to winter 2020). 1.2. Presentation and discussion of the results in exhibitions in Selb and Aš (spring 2020). 2. Shed light on the future of Europe with scientists: Window ON — Discussion forum to evaluate the previous photo safaris and develop new ideas for both cities. 2.1. Cultural scientists, politicians, urban planners, etc. and the pupils meet to exchange views on the future of their region and the European Union and to establish an exchange of ideas for pupils on this and beyond the border (spring 2020). 2.2. Several events for the idea exchange and the networking of the students of both high schools (spring 2020). 3. Shed light on the future of Europe with artists: Colorful FENSTER — Three art workshops on the results of the discussion forum and the photo safaris. 3.1. Sculptors work with the students, evaluate the idea exchange and develop two bike sculptures for the two cities — Europa-Rad in Selb and Aš (autumn 2019 — spring 2020). 3.2. Artists, together with the students, develop several actions and a cross-border installation — hand-drawn across the border line (autumn 2019 — spring 2020). 3.3. The students work together with children of primary school in a three-day workshop and develop their ideas with the youngest — future fantasy for our homeland (spring 2020). 4. Conclusion and outlook: 4.1. Final event to evaluate the project and discuss future collaborations (summer 2020). 4.2. Further events in the gymnasium on the results of the Ideas Exchange (from summer 2020). 4.3. Presentation of the project and its results — Internet, catalogue, film, guided tours (from summer 2020).
