Description

Description

The Chair is a continuation of a Jean Monnet module (2015-2018) and the activities of the Jean Monnet Excellence Center for Sustainable Development (ERASME) at the University of Clermont Auvergne (UCA). It has been designed to promote European Studies within UCA and with schools that have historically not included the European perspective in their training programmes, such as engineering schools, the mathematics school and the economics school. It is supported by 20 regional, national and European institutional partners. The Jean Monnet Chair for “Europe, Industrial Ecology and Circular Economy” (JMC3E) represents an important field of study for Europe and refers to Europe's industrial policy and its desire to make its industry more competitive and more resilient to external shocks. Challenges include waste reduction, energy transition, climate change mitigation and adaptation policies, as well as the implementation of integrated industrial policies in support of industrial symbiosis. The Chair intends to develop new courses in engineering training, introduce mathematics students to the modelling of industrial ecology based on the European Green Deal program, and provide skills to interdisciplinary students on engineering tools for the European Circular Economy. The program will accommodate a large number of European PhD students through the integration into the doctoral school's courses. The academic value is based on four key strengths: (1) An original combination of teaching, training, and research to implement European studies in Circular Economy and Industrial Ecology at UCA; (2) Peer-to-peer support (the Chair is led by an expert researcher and a junior European researcher is associated to the project); (3) European stakeholder engagement to support the Chair at the local and European levels (University, Institutions, public organisations, NGOs); (4) (4) The creation of the European Observatory for Biomaterials and bio- sourced materials (EO2BM).
