Europe Subsea Cable Repair Capability Enhancement

warning issued

The European Subsea Cables Association (ESCA) and the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) warn about the risks to Europe's subsea cable infrastructure due to regulatory barriers, skilled labor shortages, and lack of repair solutions. The European Commission's Cable Security Action Plan aims to improve prevention, detection, response, and deterrence of threats to submarine cables. The industry emphasizes the need for collaboration between public bodies and the submarine cable industry to ensure resilience and timely repair of damaged cables, which are critical for digital and energy networks.
