Description

Description

The European Arthouse Cinema Day is the oldest, largest and only global event dedicated to European cinematography and independent and arthouse cinemas and the only international joint initiative undertaken by cinema exhibitors to promote European films across diverse audiences, boost the cinema experience and innovate on audience reach in collaboration with different stakeholders of the film industry. In its nine editions, EACD has achieved an unprecedented reach: More than 800 individual cinemas and half a million visitors in 50 countries worldwide make it the preeminent global platform for European film-cultural diversity and the sector’s global day of action for democracy, diversity and free and equitable exchange across cultures and borders. The EACD draws more spectator every year: In 2024, for its 9th edition, more than 90 000 people watched overs 370 different European films, spread over 3000 special screenings across 630 cinemas from 45 countries and attended 250 national and local events as well as an additional 12 cross-cultural international events. The EACD enables one of Europe’s most vital and innovative cultural sectors to exchange and jointly develop sustainable and scalable best practices on marketing and audience development for arthouse cinemas, to improve the visibility of European films worldwide, to bring these films to territories with little coverage, to foster audience growth by pooling resources and to strengthen the arthouse sector by fostering the collaborations and exchange of best practices. While the EACD takes place as a highly marketed event each year in November, its actions and impact unfold throughout the year. By mobilizing the numerous stakeholders of the Arthouse industry in the run up to each edition, the EACD creates cultural bridges, entrepreneurial synergies, and scaling effects for European Film, cinema initiatives and practices that are hard to achieve otherwise.
