European Co-Development for the 3D animated TV series THE LAST WHALE SINGER

THE LAST WHALE SINGER SERIES is a magical road trip across the planet’s oceans. Since the dawn of time, Whale Singers have protected the oceans and their inhabitants with their mystical songs, which granted them magical powers, such as healing. As guardians, the Whale Singers have been tasked with travelling around the globe to help each and every being and maintain balance and harmony. Only one Whale Singer remains today: VINCENT, a teenage humpback whale. We follow him on his very first exciting tour across the oceans, visiting exotic, faraway places and encountering fascinating marine creatures in need. The series is part of a multi-platform project, consisting of a feature film (that received Creative Europe MEDIA support in 2018 and goes into production 2022), a game (in prototype development and starting production in 2023) and XR experiences. THE LAST WHALE SINGER SERIES will be co-produced between Telescope Animation in Germany, Big Bad Boo Entertainment in The Netherlands and Big Bad Boo Studios in Canada. The companies have already started working on the development together and the concept we present in this application has been developed between Telescope Animation and Big Bad Boo. We now want to continue this fruitful collaboration and create a comprehensive series bible, including artwork, character designs, story lines and several scripts. We will work together with several artists from all over Europe and Canada and put together a fantastic creative team. We also want to create a pitch deck and edit a teaser to pitch it to broadcasters and financiers in order to be able to go directly into the preparations for production and signatures of agreements at the end of the development phase. The structure of the financing, budgeting and scheduling will be done by inhouse employees at both companies. This development grant will put us into the position to finance the project.
