Description

Description

The project “European Criminal Procedure – A training course for future practitioners of EU law” will be activated at Faculty of Law (course of “Diritto processuale penale IUS/16”) of the Dipartimento Jonico Sistemi Giuridici ed Economici del Mediterraneo/University of Bari and will provide for a specialized overview about criminal procedure law within the EU context. The project will be articulated over 40 h of lectures for 3 years, each lecture comprising a theoretical part with topic introduction, and a practical part with discussion on ad-hoc prepared case studies to strengthen the concepts acquired. The lectures will be delivered by qualified academic staff and specialized judicial operators (judges/prosecutors) for a cross-cutting approach. Lectures will be delivered in Italian, unless differently provided. The subjects addressed in the modules will be related to EU legal sources relevant to criminal procedure, fundamental rights and ECHR case law, judicial cooperation, mutual recognition and harmonization tools, police cooperation. The modules will be addressed to students, PhDs, academic staff, lawyers, prosecutors, and judges, judicial operators, in the attempt to reach a wide audience and disseminate the European culture. The expected participants are 25 people/year. We believe that the criminal procedure integration process at EU level has not been given due attention so far, and therefore there is a general lack of knowledge and of application of the available tools. Being informed and getting aware of the EU progress in the Criminal procedure field will have a considerable impact on the work of the relevant operators, will help in the application of best practices and contribute to the improvement of the system and to the development of an EU friendly approach and consciousness. Outputs: publications (1/year on specialized journals, 1 final comprehensive work), online platform (more details follow), final conference, 1 visit/year at the CJEU/EC.
