European Development and Cooperation Policy

The EUDevCoop module is aimed at fostering high-quality teaching and research on the topic of European Development and Cooperation Policy, giving students a thorough understanding of its principles, instruments and impact. At the same time, the module will raise the public awareness on the significance of European Development and Cooperation Policy, promoting a public dialogue between scholars, practitioners working for Think Tanks and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), policymakers and the media. The module will be the basis for a newly introduced compulsory course in the Laurea Magistrale in “Sciences for International Cooperation” (Level 7 degree - according to the European Qualifications Framework) but will be open also to other students such as those enrolled in the Laurea Magistrale in “Geopolitical and International Studies” and in “Euro-Mediterranean Migration Policies and Governance”. Additional beneficiaries will be professionals and policy makers interested in development policy: all major public events will be properly advertised and broadcasted to enlarge the pool of potential beneficiaries. The innovative teaching approach will be based on interactive learning, mixing traditional lectures, seminars, supervised research activities and simulations. The module consists of two components. In the first one, students will receive a solid background knowledge of the history of the European Development and Cooperation Policy and of the institutions that are responsible for designing and implementing it. In the second part of the module, students will delve into the different components of Development Policy (aid, trade, migration, foreign policy etc.) with the help of leading scholars in the field and practitioners working in Think Tanks (Istituto Affari Internazionali), NGOs (ActionAid) and International Organizations (UN). The module will produce public events, original research outputs and an Open Access Handbook to be used in future courses.
