a. Objectives: We focus on 3 new ideas with female lead characters and we support 3 female writers. It is very hard for new talents to get a first chance. With this support, we hope to be able to develop good scripts of undeniable strength to get international partners on board. New -female- voices are welcomed in the international market, but are still not so easy to find. We already have our local broadcasters’ strong support, but this funding will help us to reach out to the international market and enable these female voices to reach beyond Belgian borders. b. Activities: Fiction is taught by experience and the challenges are multiple. In order to reach the younger audience, we understand we need to let the younger voices into the writer’s/director’s room. Our characters must speak today’s language, so we need people who speak that! We want to support new voices as they see the world from a different perspective. If your aim is a broad audience, it is crucial that we listen to their perspective. In combining our experience to their perspective, passion and talents, we are convinced that is the key to bringing relevant and influential TV series. As they voice a new generation, different backgrounds, cultures, visual styles and languages, this will be depicted in their work and felt by an international audience. The more authentic the voices, the better they are able to speak to the viewer. Thus, embracing change, challenges and give space to new talents. c. Type and number of persons benefiting from the project Jonnydepony, founded by Helen Perquy & Philippe De Schepper, an independent Belgian company. d. Expected results The strong financing from VRT, DPG Media and Streamz, combined with the experience of jonnydepony, are a guarantee for a successful series aimed at a young and broad worldwide audience. e. Type and number of outputs to be produced: Three fiction series: Boho (6 x 30’), Bloody Mandy (6 x 48’) and One Week (6 x 48’).
