Description
Description | European Film Club is a secure digital platform that makes a curated catalogue of European films easily accessible for teenagers (12-19 years old) to watch, discuss and review online in 30 countries. It is co-created by young people and the European Film Academy to optimise the user experience and build an interactive community of young film enthusiasts. This is a vital project in the Academy’s long-term plan to ensure that all Europeans who are interested in film are aware of European cinema and have opportunities to participate in it. European Film Club builds on the success and experience of the Academy’s Young Audience Award (since 2012) and the young people involved are mostly alumni of this award. We will learn from the Beta Test of film clubs currently underway, to give young audiences year-round access to continue their journey into European films in 30 European countries. A substantial number of young people want to see more European films (84% in our survey of 342 European teenagers) and over 60% would like to join European Film Club. With our 45 partners in 31 countries, we aim to roll out and establish between 560 and 900 film clubs with between 5,600 and 13,500 members in 30 European countries by 2025. At the end of the period, we aim to have achieved between 176,000 and 417,000 views of European films including 30% heritage films. Innovation is embedded in many aspects of the project such as using AI for subtitling combined with crowdsourcing of editing from European Film Club members to turn AI translations into usable subtitles, making European films accessible in more languages. Our diverse Youth Council members will continue to be the ambassadors of the European Film Club, promoting representative membership across Europe and building a sense of excitement through social media and ownership amongst young audiences. Members will in turn become aficionados and influencers for European films boosting young audiences still further across Europe. |
