Camera Film is the leading arthouse distributor in Denmark. The company was founded in 1966 – especially making a name for itself with the hot French directors coming out of La Nouvelle Vague, but also distributing everything from Bergman to Kurosawa. In more recent times another mainstay has been the films of Japanese master Hayao Miyazaki, but still the European directors have special priority.

Description

Description

Camera Film is the leading arthouse distributor in Denmark. The company was founded in 1966 – especially making a name for itself with the hot French directors coming out of La Nouvelle Vague, but also distributing everything from Bergman to Kurosawa. In more recent times another mainstay has been the films of Japanese master Hayao Miyazaki, but still the European directors have special priority. Back from the days of Krzysztof Kieslowski and up, this century exemplified by names such as Michael Haneke, Jacques Audiard, Céline Sciamma, Joachim Trier, Francois Ozon, Christian Petzold, Maria Schrader, Roy Andersson, Paolo Sorrentino, Lukas Dhont, Aki Kaurismäki, Dag Johan Haugerud, etc. etc. In other words: Our specialty is high end arthouse – with a special emphasis on award winning films by award winning directors. We take as many rights, as we can get, but main revenue still comes from theatrical. TV sales do occur, but at modest price levels. And VOD and DVD usually don’t provide more than the icing on the cake – unless we are talking really successful titles theatrically. Holdback in Denmark is 75 days. We mainly buy finished films at the main markets: Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Toronto, San Sebastian, Gothenburg, the Rendezvous in Paris, German and Italian film screenings, and so forth. We do however pre-buy titles occasionally, not least for minor production, where Danish funding is a part of the productions budget for the film. Our campaigns are always built around several elements in order to reach the largest available audience. We always begin by analysing target groups and discussing possible approaches, partnerships, and timeline. Then we plan our campaign considering both paid and organic advertisement (outreach). The objective of this project is to enable us to acquire and release non-national European films locally, bringing European cinema to a wider Danish audience and making them familiar with European film traditions and talents.
