Description

Description

The Association of Slovak Film Clubs (ASFK) was founded in 1993 as a result of the need to improve and unify the club film movement in Slovakia. At the time of its establishment, ASFK had 28 actively working film clubs in Slovakia, by 2022 their number increased to 60. Since 1995, it has been a full member of the International Federation of Film Clubs and is also a member of the Union of Slovak Film Distributors. ASFK is the largest distributor of arthouse cinematography, films from the golden fund of world cinematography, contemporary Slovak and Czech feature, documentary and animated works in Slovakia. ASFK is the organizer of the Febiofest International Festival of Film Clubs and the largest traveling film review in Slovakia – PROJEKT 100. It's activities also include program seminars for dramaturgs of film clubs, a Czech-Slovak filmological conference and many educational projects. ASFK premieres around 30 films every year, while film rights are usually purchased for 5 years. It focuses on European and national drama (e.g. social drama), original documentaries and complements its profile with archival titles, comedies and films for children. The current ASFK archive contains over 700 film titles. Long-term close cooperation with Czech distributors (Aerofilms, Artcam, Association of Czech Film Clubs) is a great benefit for new acquisitions. It is more efficient in the process of communication with producers and sales representatives when buying the latest films, contributes to the reduction of MG and subtitling costs. In addition to classic screenings of films in cinemas and film clubs, ASFK also organizes screenings as part of various educational events, lectures and seminars, during which it offers the audience a space for discussion. ASFK is not a box office distribution company, our work does not end with the release of a film in cinemas. We like to think of a film as a work of art, we work with it for a long time and try to get the most out of it.
