Description

Description

European Film Festival SCANORAMA is the most prominent and significant cultural event of the autumn in Lithuania, attracting about 30 thousand spectators to cinemas each autumn. Introduced in 2003 as Nordic film festival, SCANORAMA soon became one of the most important film festivals in the Baltic region. In 2009, SCANORAMA has expanded its cultural focus by presenting a programme including films from the whole Europe from North to South. The festival aims to culturally traverse all of Europe and geographically embrace all of Lithuania. The organizers of Scanorama are dedicated to ensuring that the festival's journey across Lithuanian cities respects and reflects the cultural identity of each region. Scanorama strives to offer a high-quality alternative to the consumerist approach to cinema by emphasizing a carefully curated program, considering the influence of cultural and political contexts on the understanding of a film, and fostering productive dialogue between creators, audiences, and professional critics. By avoiding commercial compromises, the festival aims to cultivate a discerning audience capable of critically evaluating audiovisual narratives. The structural foundation of Scanorama lies in time-tested program sections, designed to provide the deepest and most comprehensive reflection of European cinema, its achievements, and trends. The festival presents films by the most distinguished filmmakers, including those that have been featured and acclaimed at major international film festivals.
