This proposed project, European Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems 2 (FAMOUS2), aims at maximizing synergies, standardization and interoperability of armoured vehicles to address highly demanding requirements, while introducing innovation and promising new technologies and concepts, and reducing life cycle costs. EDF FAMOUS2 focuses on the study, design, testing and prototyping of the targeted vehicles and their novel sub-systems that can be considered as independent technology building blocks. The project is based on the identified capability requirements and identified operational needs of the participating nations. The project forms a continuum with the ongoing EDIDP FAMOUS project (selected under the EDIDP 2020), thus continuing the work begun during this precursor project. This continuum will optimize an efficient uptake of the ongoing EDIDP FAMOUS project outputs towards the downstream activities performed in the framework of EDF FAMOUS2, for the benefits of targeted vehicles development aiming at addressing armed forces’ needs during the next coming years. Moreover, the development of platform-agnostic technology building blocks provides synergies across several types of vehicles, strengthen harmonization of needs and interoperability, address armed forces needs in a medium-term timeframe while seeking innovative solutions across several key domains for future generations of ground vehicles. EDF FAMOUS2 develops indeed a next generation armoured platforms and upgrade and modernisation of existing platforms: design, prototyping and testing of future all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and light armoured vehicle (LAV), as well as upgrading Main Battle Tank (MBT) with 360° situational awareness system and active protection.
