ELI is an independent, non-profit, membership-based organisation (with over 1,600 individual members from all grant eligible countries and beyond and nearly 120 institutional members, incl EU institutions) established to develop European law. In 2022 ELI aims to increase research on the implementation and improvement of EU law in the field of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters and access to justice, increase awareness about the implementation and improvement of EU law in the field of judicial cooperation in civil and criminal matters and access to justice; strengthen cooperation with EU institutions and stakeholders, international organisations and professional associations and develop and strengthen its network. To that end ELI will conduct 18 research projects addressing call priorities, including on Judicial Independence, Fundamental Constitutional Principles, The Concept and the Role of Courts in Family and Succession Matters, Recognition of Agreements Resulting from Mediation, Protection of Adults in International Situations, Automated Contracting and Enforcement of Claims in Consumer Cases, Digitalisation of Justice Systems, EU Conflict of Laws for Companies: The Acquis and Beyond, European Model Rules of Civil Procedure, Admissibility of E-Evidence in Criminal Proceedings, among others. ELI will organise an Annual Conference, at least 25 project team meetings, 4 workshops/conferences, among others. ELI will also publish at least 4 reports with model rules, recommendations and guidance. ELI's activities will be targeted at EU and national policy makers, judges and legal professionals and will ultimately benefit citizens and companies in the EU and beyond.
