"The ELC project aims to the same objective that led to the founding of the Voland publishing house thirty years ago: bring to the attention of Italian readers Central and Eastern European literature, often less known and translated than that coming from the Western part of the world. Recognizing the key role of literature in the process of analysis of the present, by way of the ELC project Voland will publish six books still unreleased in Italy, chosen according to their literary quality and their ability to tell local but universal stories – six contemporary voices that debate the major themes of the present. Four of the six books are by authors who are already in Voland catalogue: the Serbian Jelena Lengold with ""Lakonogi dan"", an intense novel full of humanity and authentic relationships, the Polish Joanna Bator who follows the adventures of a young woman searching for herself across Europe in ""Chmurdalia"", the Romanian Matei Vișniec, who traces the great issues of the 20th century through his experience as an emigrant fleeing dictatorship in ""Un secol de ceață"", and the Polish Anna Kańtoch, who challenges age prejudices with irony and wit through ""Lato utraconych"", a female detective story. Aware of their literary value we intend to establish these names on the Italian publishing market. We will also translate two books by authors still unpublished in Italy, who have emerged thanks to the EUPL: the Croatian Martina Vidaić with ""Stjenice"", winner in 2023, and the Bulgarian Todor P. Todorov with ""Hagabula"", special mention in 2024. Two refined novels, which address the great questions of contemporaneity through the rewriting of history and the delving into the psyche of the characters."
