Description

Description

The European Masters in Earthen Architecture and Construction (TERRA) is a unique programme designed to advance knowledge and practice in Earthen Architecture and Construction. By integrating fragmented, empirically derived knowledge within a rigorous scientific framework, TERRA aims to address contemporary challenges in this field. The programme’s primary objective is to forge specialists equipped to promote sustainable building materials and practices and preserve earth-built heritage worldwide. TERRA is a one-year, full-time programme awarding a double Master's degree (60 ECTS). Its curriculum encompasses five complementary core areas of study: (a) Earthen Architecture and Building Culture; (b) Earthen Materials; (c) Functional Design and Sustainability; (d) Structural Analysis and Design; (e) Conservation of Earthen Buildings. The programme is delivered collaboratively by four leading European higher education institutions: the University of Minho (Portugal), the Technical University of Valencia (Spain), the National School of Public Works (France), and the University of Florence (Italy). This partnership is further supported by 39 relevant associated partners, ensuring a multidisciplinary and comprehensive educational approach that bridges Architecture and Civil Engineering. TERRA’s curriculum is structured to provide students with an international academic experience. Coursework is undertaken in two different countries, with students completing their coursework in one location and their dissertation in another. This mobility model guarantees consistency in learning objectives across all tracks while fostering a global perspective. An Integration Week further enriches the educational experience, providing a cohesive and immersive learning environment.
