The EMINENT action will deliver the design of the first-in-kind European Masters programme in obesity management. Obesity is a chronic relapsing disease affecting more than 107.7 million children and 603.7 million adults. Over 200 other diseases are associated with obesity, making it a fatal and major health crisis in the European Union and globally. There is a significant gap in the skills and capacities of the European and global graduate workforce to help public administrations/agencies, civil society, and companies address the challenges of obesity and its effects on public health and communities. The lack of expert personnel is a key obstacle to the implementation of national and multinational plans to support people living with obesity. This is exacerbated by the multi-disciplinary nature of obesity treatments; effective obesity practitioners must be knowledgeable across behavioural, psychological, pharmacological and surgical domains. EMINENT will deliver a comprehensive design of a two-year European Masters programme in Obesity Management that will train its graduates across all the key obesity-related disciplines. It will design a standardised training pathway for Healthcare Professionals. This proposal is in line with the Erasmus Mundus Design Measures (EMDM) call; it will be delivered by a consortium of Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) from Ireland, Greece, and Lithuania, with specific expertise. EMINENT deliberately involves under-represented Erasmus Mundus EU Member States and institutions and addresses an urgent global public health crisis. The programme will deliver a Joint Masters degree (the same single degree awarded to all students by all the degree awarding HEIs) corresponding to 120 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ETCS) points, 30 per EU HEI and 30 for the MSc Thesis.
