The European Protected Waveform (EPW) program is a critical enabler for CSDP operations and missions by both EU member states and EU agencies in providing scalable, secure and resilient communications in peacetime and during operations with protection against intrusion, hacking, jamming, traffic monitoring and eavesdropping. The EPW system will facilitate European autonomy and secure cooperation between EU member states through full interoperability in complex and multi-domain operations over satellite. Synergies between EPW and existing or upcoming EU programs will be maximized to increase the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the EPW program and to integrate EPW within the future EU secure satellite communication ambitions. The main objective of the multi-year project is to transform the system concepts developed in the first phase into an EPW-capable end-to-end system. The starting points for the second phase are three development tracks identified in the initial work of the EPW program. These focus on advanced satellite communication technologies for point-to-point as well as shared access communications, ensuring compliance with the mandatory system prototype and testing activities. Additional goals include the development of advanced technologies for resilience and end-to-end security. The EPW consortium brings together a mix of organizations (SMEs, research centers, and large corporations) from across the EU that are experts in the field of satellite communications.
