European Representation: Challenges and Adaptations

The EURECA Chair analyses the state of health of political representation in the multi-level governance system of the European Union (EU), examining both the Member States and the European Institutions. It aims to improve teaching and research in EU studies by incorporating recent research findings on democratic representation into undergraduate and graduate courses, reaching also students who do not automatically come into contact with EU studies. The Chair will foster dialogue between scholars, policymakers, and the media through a seminar series and three public annual events focused on distrust in institutions, electoral abstentionism, and support for non-democratic regimes. It will also generate knowledge for policymakers through a Research Unit on the Challenges to European Political Representation. The Chair will reach a wider public through civic education activities for secondary school students and the University's Web Radio. The EURECA Chair will provide an opportunity to redesign existing courses at graduate and undergraduate levels, and introduce a new one on European Migration Policy.
