Description
Description | EU RURAL-ART brings together four experienced cultural organisations—Centre d’Art i Natura (Spain), La Chambre d’Eau (France), Scènes Obliques (France), and L’Arboreto (Italy)—to implement artist residencies in rural territories. These regions face common challenges: isolation, climate crisis, economic decline, and demographic loss. Through shared methodology and local adaptation, the project promotes artistic residencies as European laboratories for artistic, civic, and ecological transformation. Structured around four stages - design, explore, exchange and disseminate - the project facilitates deep engagement from the artist-in-residency with local communities, supported by researchers from ARRC. Artists will co-create projects rooted in local knowledge and concerns, while also circulating across countries to confront several European rural territories' realities. Short-term, the project activates local dialogue through residencies and shared reflection. Medium-term, it strengthens social ties, supports sustainable cultural practices, and empowers citizens - especially youth - to initiate new local actions. Long-term, it promotes a paradigm shift: positioning residencies as strategic tools for sustainable rural development, blending art, science, and active citizenship. Communication is central: using visual storytelling, shared branding, and a multilingual digital hub to reach local communities, European networks, and policymakers. A collaborative platform and storytelling tools will document the processes and share outcomes across Europe. The project’s narrative arc mechanism ensures capitalisation, feedback collection, and the long-term reuse of methods. The project’s ambition lies in its systemic approach: from fragmented artistic interventions to a replicable, interdisciplinary residency model fostering long-term territorial resilience. |
