Description
Description | The “European Solidarity: Comparative Interdisciplinary Approach to Law, Politics, and Social Challenges” EU_SOCIAL Module promotes INNOVATIVE TEACHING (1) and RESEARCH (2) at the University of Bologna (Unibo) on the EU, addressing the implementation of the principle of SOLIDARITY within 3 areas: financial measures responding to the Covid-19 pandemic (and the 2008 crisis); measures tackling migration; measures tackling environmental issues. It also FOSTERS DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE ACADEMIC WORLD AND THE SOCIETY (3). 1) It introduces the FIRST INTERDISCIPLINARY COURSE on the topic, intersecting law, political science, and sociology, in a newly established (2019/2020) master curriculum in English, “Politics and Social Policy”, contributing to its Europeanisation. It reaches students not usually exposed to EU studies as well, through a dedicated WINTER SCHOOL in English, open to students from other Departments and abroad. 2) The planned RESEARCH assesses both the European and the domestic dimension of solidarity, grasping how this principle has been applied in the selected areas. The results will be collected in an open access special issue and in individual publications in books and peer-reviewed journals. The scientific activity also includes 3 ACADEMIC CONFERENCES, to be held at the University of Hamburg, the University of Granada and Unibo. 3) EU_SOCIAL involves civil society in 1 ROUNDTABLE and trains regional/local administrators and public officers through 2 WORKSHOPS organized with the “Europe Direct” Center of the Regional Parliament of Emilia-Romagna. All events will be open to civil society and all materials will be made available through the website and other media, to promote European citizenship and maximize dissemination. EU_SOCIAL Unibo members cover comparative, constitutional and EU law, political science, and sociology; they rely on the collaboration of 4 colleagues from Germany, Portugal and Spain, reinforcing the transnational impact of the Module. |
