Statistical literacy needs to be taught from the early age. The European Statistics Competition is an attractive tool to involve the young students to informal education. Main objectives of this project is to promote statistical literacy and the need of statistics for students. As there is a huge interest in official statistics from society and the amount of interest is growing because of external factors, such as misinformation campaigns, misunderstanding of statistics and the distortion of facts and using statistics to promote a negative and toxic agenda. Students are one of the most vulnerable parts of society, so by improving their statistical literacy, this project might give them tools to counter the misinformation that is being spread. As the internet is growing at nowadays most of the students get all of their information via the internet it is crucial to act fast and help them fight against the growing threats and dangers that the internet might pose. To counter the misinformation campaigns the best is to communicate with students via seminars in schools or by creating partnerships in which they would be able to travel to SL headquarters and get the hands-on approach, with practical and theoretical learning. This competition is a great chance to give Lithuanian students a broader vision of European statistics and its impact on day to day lives. By promoting the competition and sustaining a high level of quality, students will be able to improve their statistical literacy and also have a better understanding of the European Union as a whole. This project will also promote cooperation between students from a variety of MS. As well as cooperation between NSI’s that are participating in the project, this will allow the exchange of different approaches to the ESC. As this project is mainly directed at students, the overall objectives are directed to improve their abilities of gathering and understanding statistical data and its implications on their studies
