In the Croatian Bureau of Statistics (CBS), statistical literacy is considered an important skill to be able to understand a complex world and make grounded decisions. With the desire to show the important role of statistics in everyday life to students, CBS will organize the European Statistics Competition (ESC) for the sixth time. Given that CBS is continuously making additional efforts to increase awareness of statistics among the younger generations, the competition will not only increase interest in statistics but will also promote teamwork and cooperation among students. CBS wants to encourage students to use statistical data (both national and European) as much as possible in their schoolwork. In addition, the project is encouraging teachers to use new materials in teaching and use official statistics in their work. The tradition of this competition has led to a greater understanding of the importance of statistics in everyday life. With each competition organized over the years, the CBS collected suggestions for improvements from participants and thus improved the implementation of the competition. CBS will continue with the promotional activities and popularisation of statistics through this unique competition. Like every year, the general objective of introducing statistics even more in the national curriculum will be achieved with the already established connection with the educational sector – the Ministry of Science and Education and the Agency for Science and Higher Education. Due to the excellent response, CBS will continue to execute a public choice award with a goal to further extend the scope of people involved. By organizing the ESC at national level, CBS will strengthen connections with the educational sector, encourage students to use statistics, and increase the interest of the wider public in statistics.
