Description

Description

The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS) will participate in the project called “European Statistics Competition 2022/2023” (ESC 2022/23). We have foreseen to implement the ESC 2022/2023 at the national level and to participate in the European phase of the ESC. The ESC 2022/23 will be the sixth edition of this competition carried out by SURS and will include the implementation of the public choice award as part of the national phase, executed for the fourth time. SURS intends to conduct the ESC 2022/23 in cooperation with the Slovenian Statistical Society and with the support of the coordinating NSI and Eurostat. All activities will be executed according to the planned schedule. We will adapt the ESC 2022/23 to the national circumstances as closely as possible to the other participating NSIs to guarantee comparability and fairness for the European part of the competition. We will also continue with many promotional activities recognised as necessary, useful or effective in order to increase the popularity of the ESC as well as the visibility of official statistics and the important role of statistical institutes. With this action SURS continues to increase the awareness and importance of official statistical data and of spreading statistical literacy among upper secondary school pupils and their teachers. Pupils participating in the competition get an insight into all kinds of statistical data and products and gain new skills in processing, visualising and interpreting of data while teachers have the opportunity to present statistics to pupils in a different way, with practical examples of its use. By involving the general public in the public voting for the best assignment, we are raising the awareness of official statistics among them too. We believe that all this range of activities will contribute to better communication, promotion and understanding of national as well as European statistics and to facilitation of their use.
