In a world of rapid information, statistical literacy is considered an important skill for understanding the world around us, as well as for making decisions. With the desire to bring statistics closer to students and show its important role in everyday life, Croatian Bureau of Statistics (CBS) will organize the European Statistics Competition (ESC) for the seventh time. Given that CBS is continuously making efforts to increase awareness of statistics among younger generations, the organization of the competition will continue to increase interest in statistics, promote teamwork and cooperation among students. CBS wants to encourage students to use statistical data (both national and European) as much as possible in their schoolwork. In addition, the project encourages teachers to use new material and official statistics in their work. The tradition of this competition has led to a greater understanding of the importance of official statistics in everyday life and the use of real data provided by official statistics. Through this unique competition, CBS will continue with promotional activities and popularisation of official statistics. CBS will also work on possible improvements in the implementation of the competition, based on the suggestions of participants collected in previous years. As every year, the general objective of introducing statistics even more in the national curriculum will be achieved with the already established connection with the educational sector – the Ministry of Science and Education and the Agency for Science and Higher Education. Due to the excellent response, CBS will continue to execute a public choice award with a goal to further extend the scope of people involved. By organizing the ESC at national level, CBS will strengthen connections with the educational sector, encourage students to use statistics, and increase the interest of the wider public in statistics.
