Croatian Bureau of Statistics (CBS) will organize eighth in a row European Statistical Competition (ESC) as a part of all other activities in a field of statistical literacy promotion. Over a decade the CBS promotes official statistics through various channels (web site, social media, workshops) in order to reach different audience with a special target on students as future decision makers and labour market active participants. As a part of this project the CBS will conduct activities related to better communication of official statistics, both national and European, and its values by promoting it as a trustworthy source. The general objective of the action is to enhance the ability of young people to understand official statistics as well as to continue raising students’ awareness of the presence of statistical data in everyday life. It is important that official statistics, as an authority in the field of promoting statistical literacy, offer an information infrastructure and knowledge and the improvement can be achieved by offering new products. By organizing the ESC at national level, the CBS will maintain continuity in promoting curiosity and interest in statistics among students and will use new communication channels adapted to nowadays trends for promotion. Also, the CBS will encourage teachers to use new materials for teaching statistics by presenting official statistics and the ESC through different channels (webinar, leaflet, workshop) and to reach new students who have not been introduced to the ESC yet. Through all activities mentioned the CBS will show the role of statistics in various aspects of society by presenting wide spectrum of data available and their connection with the real life. The very concept of the ESC which promotes teamwork and collaboration among students is one of the main reasons why the ESC has been so well accepted and will remain one of the main features in future editions of the ESC.
