"Nowadays, we have easy access to a lot of information and different sources of data, and we often encounter misinformation and fake news. The ""European Competition in Statistics"" (ESC) as a creative and original form of education for young people helps to increase the statistical literacy of high school students. Office of the SR will participate in the organisation of the European Statistics Competition at national level in the school year 2024/2025 the third time. The main objective of the competition is to encourage students' curiosity and interest in statistics, help them to learn how to read statistical data, to correctly navigate in the data and also to interpret them correctly. Students will gain the ability to distinguish between official and unofficial sources of data and by participating in the competition we will encourage them to increase their statistical literacy. The project will teach young people to identify misinformation and hoaxes, as well as to verify and evaluate facts about them. The project also aims to show the importance of statistics in society. Students can register for the competition in teams of 1 to 3 students and 1 teacher. Relevant phases of the national round of the competition will be carried out by the Statistical Office of the SR in line with the national competition's timetable and rules, taking into account the national circumstances of the organization of the competition as well as the constraints imposed by the ESC coordinator. In addition, the Statistical Office of the SR will work out a detailed communication plan and implement a promotion strategy to reach the individual target audiences. As the second year of organizing the competition in Slovakia in the year 2023/2024 showed the high interest of students in this project. The Statistical Office of the SR will continue in cooperation in the school year 2024/2025 with the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the SR and the National bank of Slovakia. "
